I would spread the word about these companies even if they didn’t give uss a discount to shop with them–they are on our website because they are the best companies to use. We actively support these companies; we have spent tens of thousands of dollars at Svendsens, thousands at Bowlin. These are the places to get what you need.

Bowlin sells fasteners. All of them. Bolts, screws, etc in stainless, brass, titanium, etc. If it’s a fastener they have it, if not they don’t. It’s a small, family run affair and they are experts at their niche. We have received an education in metallurgy from our conversations with Larry and Vince over the past few years. Really good people.

Svendsens is the chandlery to use in the San Francisco Bay area. When you first walk in there, it looks small and unimpressive. But when you leave, you will have every last item on your list and a dozen other essential items that you didn’t know existed. It is obvious that the store was created by people working on boats, because it has all important stuff. You will not find dozens of the latest models of pretty VHF radios lined up, like you will over at West Marine–you will find the nice spreader for the epoxy, the right size bronze through-hull, the high-quality hose, etc. And if you are fortunate enough to have just purchased a boat, they have an incredible “new boat owner” deal that makes everything about 40% off for the first three months.

Longacre is a outdoor trips company for teenagers.  Jonny and I both worked there as trip leaders.  I support their style of outdoor education and wholeheartedly endorse the experience for building the confidence and maturity of teenagers.

We have the same name!  They sell wine!

Our good friend Bruce Felix started this company, which does solar installations in the front-range area of Colorado.  Bruce is the long-haired guy in some of my canyoneering pictures on flickr–which is to say that we have been on many adventures with him long before he got involved in this gig.  He is smart as a whip and has impeccable integrity.

Ahoy and Happy New Year 2009 Anne and I are in the process of purchasing a 1977 Valiant 40 located in Alameda. Found your site when searching for V40 info. Good luck to you. Maybe we’ll meet sometime as fellow V40 owners.

Hi there, Really liked looking over your site. We are all about promoting energy awareness through renewable resources, and do this through our clean seas projects. Maybe we will see SV Syzygy when we get to the west coast.
