phil, I haven't had any trouble yet with the salt air on the camera. I keep it in a standard padded camera case, neither airtight nor watertight, and we keep it right next to the computers at the nav station (for quick access). So far everything still works great . . .

I think the drink link is no longer on the blink. Matt, have you had any trouble with the humidity and salt air on the Canon Mark 2? Are you using an airtight case or does that just make it worse? Jon, are you on board for the duration?

Phil, thanks for the heads-up about the drink link. I think Matt has it fixed. We did catch the syzygy. It was quite a bit of fun, though not as dark as I expected. We have a bunch of goofy photos of us with these cheapo special glasses I bought that let you look directly at the sun. I'm glad it wasn't cloudy!

Very entertaining post! Did you guys catch the Syzygy (solar eclipse) the other day?
Please let Matt know the "Buy us a drink" thing was down when I tried (at least it was not functioning at 1PM on 7/18/10 SF time).

brittany~ i, too, think jon is nuts for *wanting* to be on watch that long... but even Matt and I did 6hr watches sometimes on our crossing. sometimes we felt that it was actually easier so the other person could sleep longer. of course, our watches are always prefaced with the caveat that the person on watch can switch out when/if he needs to! btw - congrats on your upcoming wedding and imminent departure!

Again, holy mackerel on the 6h watch (esp. the tough one thru night!)
Usually 3 or 4 hour watches for your sister ship and most of the cruising community. Not sure we always enjoy that much, but certainly not more.
Fair winds and and ALWAYS clip in.

A SIX HOUR watch!?! ALONE!? Holy mackerel! I've NEVER done more than a four hour watch (unless conditions are crazy), and we prefer three hours on/off...yikes. That is a loooong time for someone to be up! Glad all was well and you enjoyed it!
